Lowe Mill
What once was Huntsville’s 5th textile mill, is now a thriving arts and entertainment district with a mixture of businesses and homes! This area, located just off of Governor’s drive, is quickly becoming one of the hottest spots in the Huntsville/Madison area. You’ve probably heard of Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment, but there’s so much more to discover in this area!
Just outside the historic Lowe Mill building is a popular coffee spot for locals and out-of-town visitors alike: Gold Sprint Coffee. You can also find an old school building that has been repurposed into HuntsvilleWEST, a modern co-working, and office space. You can find newly built homes that have a classic feel, as well as original homes that were built back in the 1940s.
Close by you’ll also find yet another repurposed school, Campus 805, that is home to a brewery, speakeasy, church, hair salon, and multiple restaurants and entertainment spaces! There is so much to do, see, and always something new going on in the Lowe Mill District!
New Market
Did you know that New Market, AL was the first area to be settled in Madison County? Traditionally, the town was known for its rolling farmland and small-town feel, but lately, it has been growing! The new-build housing market has boomed due to the influx of people moving to Huntsville. Now you can drive down Winchester Road and see many bustling neighborhoods on either side of you, where there was one pasture for miles.
The new homes aren’t the only great thing about New Market. It boasts some of the most highly-rated public schools in the area. The surrounding areas are also gaining businesses. In recent years, big-name stores like Walmart, Starbucks, and Aldi moved in. Now the new communities really have a thriving area in their own backyards that is hard to leave!
Athens
Named one of the safest cities in Alabama by The Home Security Advisor, Athens is an up-and-coming area. In fact, according to Mayor Ronnie Marks, Athens has had a growth rate of 25.1%. This could be due to all the job opportunities opening up in the area. From large manufacturing to more family-owned businesses, there is always a great place to find work in Athens. Buc-ee’s, a wildly popular travel center, will be calling Athens home soon, making it the fourth location in the state. The Mazda Toyota plant has employed many and is consistently growing.
The city of Athens also has outdoor offerings. With their 7 public parks, trails, golf courses, and more, you’re sure to get your outdoor fix. Keep an eye on this town, you’ll want to watch its momentum in the coming years.
