We are proud of our high-tech city of Huntsville, Alabama! The town lies at the foot of several mountains in beautiful North Alabama. Huntsville has many attractions that reflect the heritage of Alabama’s first English-speaking city, the strife of the American Civil War, and the accomplishments of America’s rocket scientists.
In 1805, John Hunt was the first to settle the area. The town was initially named Twickenham after Alexander Pope’s English home at the request of then resident and land owner Leroy Pope. However, following the War of 1812, it was renamed “Huntsville” after its first settler. Huntsville continued to grow outward along the Tennessee River and across nearby hills.
In the early days, textile mills and factories help Huntsville bloom into a major city. Today, technology, space, and defense industries have a significant presence with the Army’s Redstone Arsenal, NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, and Cummings Research Park.
Huntsville is home to several Fortune 500 companies and a large manufacturing base, retail, and service industries. This coupled with various educational, recreational, and cultural opportunities, creates an environment for a fantastic quality of life.
Huntsville, Alabama, is one of the most recognized cities in the Southeast. National publications consistently name it one of the best places to live and work – and we can see why! Huntsville combines innovative high-tech ventures, a rich heritage of Southern hospitality, and cultural diversity.
