The weather is pleasant and that means we are all getting outside more! Hiking is one of the best ways to get outdoors, see nature, and exercise our bodies. We have rounded up 4 hiking trails to get you and your crew outside!
Green Mountain Nature Trail
The Green Mountain Nature Trail is an easy hike to get you moving. Located on top of Green Mountain in southeast Huntsville, you will instantly feel more relaxed as you enter the 72-acre park. A 1.5-mile walking trail, pavilion, chapel, outdoor classroom, picnic tables, and a covered bridge encompass Sky Lake.
The park is open free to the public each day from 7 am until thirty minutes before sunset. Accessible restrooms are also onsite.
You can even find the state’s largest and oldest Champion Winged Elm Tree along the Trail!

North Plateau Loop
Another favorite hiking spot in North Alabama is The North Plateau Loop.
Discover this 2.0-mile loop trail near Huntsville, Alabama! The North Plateau Loop is the trail that surrounds the inner park and provides access to 5 other trails in the Monte Sano system. While it is the heaviest used trail (and easiest), it does provide a beautiful view of Logan Point and the northwest side of Monte Sano Mountain, as well as the Amphitheater, an abandoned lodge, and the picnic area.
The trail is open year-round and dogs are welcome. You’ll find the best parking for this trail at the Monte Sano State Park Picnic Area parking lot.

Walls of Jericho
In the mood for a little more of a challenge while hiking? Walls of Jericho will be perfect for you! Walls of Jericho is a 8.1-mile trail near Estillfork, Alabama. The trail is considered a challenging route and will take hikers an average of 3 hours and 49 minutes to complete. Walls of Jericho is a well-traveled trail leading down into a beautiful valley where you can relax, swim, cave, or camp. It is a little more difficult to hike back out, so you will need good hiking boots.
The best times to visit this trail are March through November. Dogs are welcome!

Alum Hollow Trail
A new trail has recently opened up on Green mountain called Alum Hollow! This is a short 2.2-mile out-and-back trail conveniently in Huntsville, Alabama. You can expect this to be a relatively easy trek, and it takes about an hour to complete. This trail has a beautiful view overlooking the mountains and a waterfall!
